Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, Pastor has had his surgery and is recovering nicely. The members enjoyed a time of caroling throughout the community Tuesday night. They went to pastor's home for hot chocolate and coookies after trolling the ancient yuletide carols.. A new series on "Managing Your Emotions " will bring in the new year. No Sunday school on Christmas day. Morning service at 11:00AM. There is no time like the new year to begin your faith journey. Come visit and begin your journey with us.

Winter Hours

Cold Weather has arrived and that means a change in our meeting locations and hours. Our Wednesday night prayer meeting changes to cottage prayer meetings in a different home each week. You can find the location of this week's meeting by calling the church at 607-849-3406.  We also switch to a Sunday Morning only schedule for winter. Sunday School is at 10:00AM and Sunday Morning Service is at 11:00AM. The only exceptions to this are Christmas Day (no Sunday School) and the Second Sunday of Jan -March on which we have a potluck dinner following the Morning service and a second service after the meal. Join us this winter as we continue our journey through the Gospel of Luke in the Morning Service and resume our study of the book of Proverbs in Sunday School. If you are looking for in depth bible study you won't find a better place.

New Look

Killawog Baptist has a new look both inside and out. We recently finished new and improved front steps offering better traction  by using composite steps. Our fellowship hall lights have been refurbished offering a brighter buzz free basement. The basement entryway is almost finished with it's redo that offers a newly refinished floor. Other projects are in the works to make Killawog's fellowship hall a brighter more pleasant experience.
We are entering the Christmas season at Killawog.  December's messages will center around our Saviour's birth. If you have never stopped in before now is the time. See you soon!

Flood report

The church received about one foot of water during the latest flood. The Killawog fire department graciously pumped out most of the water. The rest was removed by a small sump of our own. This water was not mud filled like the last time (Oct of 2010), so cleanup should not take quite so long. The parsonage had almost five feet of water in the basement. It took about five days for the sumps to clear it out. We often get water in the parsonage basement, so everything important is kept eye level or above. The Lord graciously allowed us to be north of the major flooding in Binghamton.

Birthday celebration

September 11th we will be joining our daughter church Marathon Baptist for their 150th birthday celebration. Many of our members will be involved in a joint choir for this event. Please take a moment on this day to remember the families of those who lost loved ones on 9/11. We will be having some of our Sunday school classes, during the month of September, devoted to the 400th anniversary of the KJV Bible. I have always believed that of all the translations this one is the most trustworthy as it alone is based on the recieved text.

Spring into History

Killawog Baptist Church has a long and exciting history. The church began in October of 1841 in the then named Union Village. Elder A.B. Jones was the first pastor. It was not long before the church sensed a need to expand the gospel in our area and let go of some of its member to form a Baptist church in Center lisle. 1851 saw another mission expansion as Killawog voted to help start the Marathon Baptist Church. The church took on its present name in 1864 when the post office took the name of Killawog. In 1896 the church again extended its influence by beginning a church in Hunts Corners. The building as it stands today was finished in 1953 when  a basement was added. All work was done by its members. While our membership has remained small this was due in part to constantly sending out its members for the purpose of extending the gospel outreach. Killawog Baptist Church remains committed to spreading the gospel. We will continue to send members into the mission field of the world even if it means the eventual closing of our work here. even as we obey our Lord's command Mr 16:15 "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

Hey Folks, I hope the New Year has been kind to you. This week, in addition to Sunday School and our regular morning service, we are having a potluck dinner with an afternoon service to follow.
